This focused issue on “Anatomic Reconstruction of Anterior Cruciate Ligament - Concept, Indication, and Its Efficacy” is edited by Dr. Takeshi Muneta, from National Hospital Organization Disaster Medical Center, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Takeshi Muneta is the professor emeritus, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo, Japan. He ran the Department of Joint Surgery and Sports Medicine, Graduate of Medical School, Tokyo Medical and Dental University from 2000 to 2017. Dr. Muneta specializes in knee and sports medicine. He emphasizes the importance of the muscle skeletal pain and the subjective evaluation from the patient. He moved to one of the Disaster Medical Center in Japan as the director, however, he is still active in clinics and surgeries. Dr. Muneta’s major research interest lines in ACL injury and surgeries, clinical outcome from the patient’s aspect, meniscus preservation and pain management. Dr. Muneta is an author of over 240 peer-reviewed articles. He started a two-bundle hamstring ACL reconstruction using Endobuttons at 1994, and reported his preliminary clinical outcome in the Journal of Arthroscopy 1999.
The purpose of this issue is to summarize the present status of the anatomic ACL reconstruction and to suggest the better ACL reconstruction and the direction for the future ACL reconstruction. We hope that this special issue helps extending the concept of anatomic ACL reconstruction and improving the outcome of ACL reconstruction in the near future.
