Dongquan Shi, MD, PhD (Sports Medicine and Adult Reconstructive Surgery)

Dr. Shi graduated from Medical School, Nanjing University (MD, PhD). He received training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Drum Tower Hospital, Medical School, Nanjing University and University of Pittsburgh.

After completing residency and fellowship in Nanjing University and University of Pittsburgh joined the faculty at Drum Tower Hospital and is currently Orthopaedic Surgeon in Drum Tower Hospital, Nanjing University and an active member of Sports Medicine and Adult Reconstruction Service. He also does scientific research on Regenerative Medicine and genetic study for bone and joint disease, especially for cartilage repair.

Dr. Shi serves on several societies, including the Chinese Osteoarthritis Society (Board Member), Chinese Orthopaedic Regenerative Medicine work group (Board Member) and Young Investigator Committee of Chinese Orthopaedic Association. He is a reviewer for many scientific journals. He also collaborates with RIKEN, UPMC, et al.


Shiro Ikegawa, MD, PhD

Dr. Ikegawa, a specialist in orthopaedic surgery, is the head of the Laboratory for Bone and Joint Diseases at the RIKEN Center for IMS (Integrated Medical Sciences), as well as the Director of Japanese Society of Human Genetics.

Dr. Ikegawa earned his MD and Ph.D. from Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo. From 1991 to 1995, Dr. Ikegawa worked as a surgeon and became a Chief surgeon in 1992 at the Department of Orthopaedics, National Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (NRCDC). He was the Assistant Professor of Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo (1995-2000). At present, he is the head of the Laboratory for Bone and Joint Diseases, RIKEN Center for IMS (Integrated Medical Sciences).

His other appointments include being the Director of the Japanese Society of Human Genetics; Executive Board member of EAUHGS (East Asian Union of Human Genetics; Honorary professor of Hong Kong University (Dept of Biochemistry); Visiting professor of Yokohama City University; Visiting professor of Taipei Medical School; Concurrent professor of Nanjing University (School of Medicine); Visiting lecturer at Hiroshima University Dental. School; Visiting lecturer at Kyoto University, Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences, etc. In 2009, he was appointed by the Raine Medical Foundation, University of Western Australia as the Raine Visiting Professorship. He has been awarded the Basic Research Award in 2012 and Japan Society of Human Genetics Award, and RIKEN Center for IMS Award in 2013.


Albert Lin, MD

Albert Lin, MD, is Professor and Vice Chair of Education, Residency Program Director, Chief of Shoulder Surgery, Co-Director of the Pittsburgh Shoulder Institute, and Associate Chief of Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lin specializes in the care of athletes and shoulder conditions, and has extensive experience with shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder arthroplasty, and complex reconstructive and open surgery of the shoulder. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program, as a well as fellowships in Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Shoulder Surgery at Harvard University.

Dr. Lin is an active committee member of AAOS, AOSSM, ASES, ISAKOS, AOA fellowship coalition, the AUC rotator cuff committee of AAOS, and was recently inducted to the prestigious Herodicus Society and ASES Neer Circle in 2022. He is a founding board member of the international Rotator Cuff Study Group and is a regular invited faculty member for AAOS, ASES, AOSSM, AANA, ISAKOS, and MASES. He was the co-chair of the ASES Fellows’ Day 2021 and 2022, and is the current vice-chair of the shoulder and elbow program of the OSET Summit Meeting since 2022.

In addition, he is an Associate Editor of JBJS Case Connector and currently serves as an Editor-in-Chief of Annals in joint and on the Editorial Boards of KSSTA, Arthroscopy, and JISAKOS. He is a regular reviewer for AJSM, Arthroscopy, JAAOS, JSES, KSSTA, JBJS, JOR, and several other journals. Dr. Lin has currently published 125 peer-reviewed papers and over 300 abstracts and book chapters related to clinical and basic science research on shoulder instability, rotator cuff pathology, shoulder arthroplasty, and complex shoulder conditions, and regularly presents his research at international and national meetings. His papers have received numerous awards from ASES, AOSSM, and AANA. He recently completed two NIH (R03, R21) grants as a PI related to shoulder biomechanics research in addition to two additional current federally funded grants with the NIH (R01) and DoD as a Co-I related to shoulder instability research. He is actively involved in residency and fellowship education and currently serves as the Program Director of the Orthopaedic Residency and was a previous Associate Program Director of the UPMC Sports Medicine Fellowship. He is also the head orthopaedic team physician for Duquesne University and Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School.
