Osteoarthritis of the hip: aetiology, pathophysiology and current aspects of management

The incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip is constantly increasing. It is a main cause of pain and disability in our aging population with an ever increasing cost to Health Care providers. Understanding of the disease process and modern evidence-based approaches to its management enables us to instigate appropriate, efficient therapy and maximize the resources available to us in managing this often underestimated disease. This review aims to revisit this disease and update readers on current concepts regarding pathophysiology as well as approaches to surgical and non-surgical therapy.
