Cartilage repair in the hip

Erin E. Gordey, Ivan H. Wong

Abstract

As techniques in hip arthroscopy advance, many of the joint preservation procedures previously limited to use in the knee are now being applied to the hip. Unlike the knee, chondral lesions in the hip rarely occur in isolation and are treated alongside correction of other pathologies, such as femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). This review aims to outline the most recent evidence for surgical treatment of chondral lesions in the hip, including chondroplasty, repair of delamination, microfracture, enhanced microfracture, autograft, and allograft.
