Dr. de SA obtained his Medical Doctor degree from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at McMaster University, largely under the mentorship of Dr. Olufemi Ayeni. Dr. de SA is now a Clinical Fellow with the University of Pittsburgh’s Orthopedic Sports Medicine Program under Chairman Dr. Freddie H. Fu, Fellowship Director Dr. Volker Musahl, and Associate Fellowship Director Dr. Craig Mauro.
Dr. de SA is tremendously passionate about all facets of orthopedic surgery, and throughout his training, has been intimately involved with many leadership positions in research and resident/medical student education. These efforts have been recognized at the institutional, provincial, and national level, with such honors as: the Ontario Medical Association Resident Achievement Award; Resident Doctors of Canada Dr. Joseph Mikhael Award for Medical Education; J.C. Kennedy Memorial Award for Excellence in Sport Medicine Research; and the Detweiler Travelling Fellowship awarded by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
His research program focuses on outcomes research in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery as it pertains to the knee, hip, and shoulder.
